Creel and Cusararé

Distances: Creel to San Rafael (the town beyond Divisadero) is 56 km (35 miles); to Divisadero it is 43 km (27 miles). The highway is paved and in very good condition, but beware of extremely tight curves.
Cusarare junction to Cusarare pueblo, 3 km; to the Cascada, 3 km; to Norogachi, 75 km (47 miles on a gravel road).

Mica True introduced me to the Casa de Huespedes "Luli" Perez: on Creel's main street, walking away from the plaza -- turn left on the first side street just past the Museum. Walk down the lane past the Templo Bautista and cross a green steel footbridge (vehicles can enter next to the bridge). They sell coffee in their living room and have rooms for 80p. Very friendly and homestyle, this place reminds me of Margarita's before she found fame. Their coffee was as strong as CPR.

Cesar, Margarita's oldest son, manages the hotel. He speaks excellent English.

Bus and Suburban to Batopilas: Hotel Los Pinos, across from Restaurant Lupita on the main drag. Bus departs Creel on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for 300p, roundtrip. I didn't get the time but it leaves very early.
The van leaves on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and costs 320p, roundtrip. Phone 10-14-79. Rooms at Los Pinos are 230p for one bed and 300p for two beds. Not especially friendly.
Bank and money exchange: There is at least one casa de cambio on Creel's main street, just off the plaza. Money can be exchanged at the bank (on the plaza, next to the Mission Store) from 0900 - 1300. All traveler's checks must first be signed by the manager.
"La Ruta" is a beat-up blue van that runs between San Ignacio and Cusarare, charges 16p.
